Senator Klobuchar

Klobuchar Takes on EpiPen and Prescription Drug Price Gouging

Senator Amy Klobuchar is doing what few have attempted and succeeded at: taking on Big Pharma

The Senator, who is up for re-election in 2024, is pushing legislation to address the soaring cost of prescription drugs, including EpiPens and other life-saving medications

Senator Klobuchar is a longtime advocate for affordable healthcare and has been a vocal critic of the pharmaceutical industry's price gouging. In 2016, she introduced the EpiPen Affordability Act, which would have capped the price of EpiPens at $100. The bill was blocked by Republicans in the Senate, but Klobuchar has continued to fight for lower drug prices.

In addition to her work on EpiPens, Klobuchar has also introduced legislation to address the rising cost of other prescription drugs. In 2019, she introduced the Prescription Drug Pricing Reduction Act, which would allow Medicare to negotiate lower drug prices with pharmaceutical companies. The bill has not yet been voted on by the Senate, but it has gained support from a number of Democrats and Republicans.

Klobuchar's efforts to lower drug prices have earned her praise from consumer advocates and healthcare experts. In 2019, she was named the "Legislator of the Year" by the National Association of Chain Drug Stores. The organization cited her work on EpiPens and other prescription drug pricing issues.

Klobuchar is facing a tough re-election race in 2024, but she is confident that her work on drug pricing will resonate with voters. In a recent interview, she said, "I'm not going to stop fighting for lower drug prices until every American can afford the medications they need."
