Karen Read Accused of Murdering Boston Police Officer

Trial Commences in High-Profile Case

BOSTON, MA (June 6, 2024) - The trial of Karen Read, the woman accused of murdering her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe, began on Wednesday in Middlesex Superior Court.

Read has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of O'Keefe, who was found shot to death in his Revere home on April 17, 2023.

One of the Massachusetts State Police detectives who supervised the investigation, testified that he observed a "large amount of blood" on the scene and that there was a "projectile" that entered O'Keefe's body.

The trial is expected to last several weeks.
