Tragedy struck the CrossFit Games in Fort Worth on Thursday when an athlete died while swimming in a lake. The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Lazar Đukić of Serbia, who was ranked third in his country and 88th in the world in the male category.

According to reports, Đukić was participating in an individual event that involved a 35-mile run and an 800-meter swim. He was swimming in Marine Creek Lake when he went missing. Seven firefighter units responded to the scene and conducted a search, but Đukić's body was later recovered.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause and manner of death. CrossFit has released an official statement expressing devastation over Đukić's passing. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
