Hyundai Sonata Brake Light Recall

Letters to be Mailed on October 5

Dealerships Will Update the Brake Software

Hyundai is recalling 38,331 Sonatas from the 2024 model year due to a brake light issue. The recall affects vehicles in the US and only those from the refreshed 2024 model year. This comes just two weeks after Hyundai recalled nearly 50,000 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid SUVs.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the brake light switch in the affected vehicles may not illuminate the brake lights when the brake pedal is depressed. This could increase the risk of a crash.

Hyundai will mail recall letters to owners on October 5, 2024. Dealerships will update the brake software for free.

In the meantime, Hyundai advises owners to be aware of the potential problem and to contact their dealer if they have any concerns.
